Cold wax medium is a translucent wax-based oil painting medium contains wax, artist white spirits and alkyd resin. Cold wax medium makes oil colours more transparent and matt. Cold wax medium can be mixed with powder pigments and thins with turpentine or mineral spirits. It is recommended using a ratio of 1:2 oil paint to medium. Using a rigid surface of adding additional resins the ratio of wax to paint can increase. Drying time varies depending on method used.
